Andrew F. Lloyd is a Partner at Rupp, Johnston & Lloyd, LLP specializing in trial work and litigation. His primary emphasis is in the area of construction defect litigation, although he has substantial experience in real estate and business litigation as well. He has been with the firm since 2010. Mr. Lloyd is a fifth generation Californian and grew up in Orange County. He moved to San Diego in 1972 to commence a pre-law curriculum at San Diego State University. In 1976 he graduated with high honors and distinction in political science.
He attended the University of San Diego School of Law. His chosen area of specialization was trial work and he took all available litigation-related classes in addition to the mandatory course work. He graduated in May 1979 and was admitted to practice in November.
Upon graduation he joined a small general practice firm where he became the primary trial attorney. He handled all aspects of litigation, including trials, as early as his first year of practice. He was also successful at the appellate level expanding the liability of drunk drivers to their victims. Busboom v. Superior Court.
After joining Rupp, Johnston & Lloyd, LLP, Mr. Lloyd concentrated on the representation of homeowner's associations in construction defect litigation. He has handled everything from single-family cases to multi-million dollar cases involving hundreds of units. He has continued to handle real estate, business, and personal injury matters as well.
Mr. Lloyd has had substantial success both at trial and appellate levels In 1993 he was a lead trial attorney in Villas at Eastlake v. Century American and obtained a $7.2 million jury verdict. In 1994, he was a lead trial attorney in Eucalyptus Ridge v. Adma, and obtained a $2 million verdict. In both of those cases the amount awarded was very close to the amount sought. His appellate successes have included Cascade Gardens v. McKellar, which held that repairs by a developer could be used to toll the statute of limitations, and Orndorff v. Christiana which held the cost of repair was the appropriate measure of damages in a construction defect case.
Andrew Lloyd truly enjoys the practice of law. Representing homeowner's associations and other plaintiffs allows him to practice his craft in furtherance of individual and consumer rights. He feels that through earnest effective representation, a good lawyer can make a difference.
